The Role of Women Within the Graphic Design Community

Is there a lack of female tutors? When we statrted the course the courses were Neil, Darren and David.

Maybe because men spend more time blogging about themselves whereas women just get on with their work.

At lectures if there are women speakers less men turn up, or it tends to get labelled as “Women Designers”

Do women go into certain areas of graphic design more than others?
Do female graphic design students need female graphic designer role models?
Is there a lack of women in top design jobs, and if so why? Is this down to personally choice.
The role of women within the graphic design community – 60% of graphic design students are women but do they lack recognition in the graphic design community. Is there a graphic design glass ceiling? Can you think of many famous women graphic designers? Lack of articles on women designers in grafik magazine for example and this interesting article.

“When I was in my 20s, I heard about an advertising agency which placed an ad in a paper for a creative position.The salary was attractive but there was almost no response from women candidates. Then a bright spark at the agency had the idea of re-advertising the exact same position but with a lower salary. Dozens of women immediately replied.” Are women shooting themselves in the foot?
Can you tell if something has been designed by a women or a man, are there underlying male or female characteristics that subconsciously come through in our design work?
Maybe there isn’t an imbalance?
