The true cost of water

Overview
Our bodies are made up of about two-thirds water, we need to drink eight glasses of water everyday to maintain the water level in our bodies. It is a necessity for us to drink water but why do we need to pay for it? Today, buying bottled water is a culture and there are different types of them, the prices of them can vary from 19p to hundreds of pounds.

Bottled water is easy to carry around and often appeared to be better than tap water, however, the bottles are not very environmental friendly. The true cost of water is more than what we pay for, the carbon footprint of Fiji water is a good example. There is a need to find the perfect water bottle that is affordable, ethnical and sustainable.

The aim of this report is to raise the awareness of sustainability and find a solution for current water bottles problems.

  1. Hi Carissa,

This looks like an interesting project to research. You’ve broken it down well and have a clear focus – design a perfect water bottle.

I think for a research report however you don’t actually need to design the bottle – a research report should provide clues, suggestions, ideas and answers but the designing of the actual bottle is a practical project that you can do in the other course Unit in term 01 of 3rd year.

I think the sections you have about the development of bottled water becoming part of our culture is very interesting. Maybe you could expand this section and look at lots of peoples thought, feelings and associations to bottled water. Different age groups etc – this should provide lots of interesting data to put forward to help you design a bottle that meets all your requirements.

It’s good that you have a timeline with actual dates/months on it. Make sure you check regularly that you are keeping on track.

This looks like it could be a great piece of work to have in your portfolio.

  2. I've done a similar project to this before. Here some of the links I used when I was doing it:

http://www.wewanttap.com - (they've got some good statistics and facts on there that you could probably use).

    Hope they help!
