Report Formation

After today's exercises to help with writing a report, I could have easily gone in two possible direction for topic titles. I had originally planned to use the topic colour and research the emotional and psychological effects it has on us, but changed my mind as I felt too comfortable with the choice. I wanted to choose a topic which pushed me a bit and which will keep me thinking about it thoughout the summer.

I feel this report should be a way of teaching myself something new.

I took out the following books from the library to make sure the topic I am writing about will be relevant and keep me enthusiastic and motivated.

  • Macro Micro Aesthetics - Willi Kunz
  • Type and Colour - Michael Beaumont
At the end of the day I had decided on the topic of typography taboos for example being unable to read yellow type on white paper, script typefaces and outlining typography.

I want to look at the helvetica documentary for background information, gather visual research on typography which doesnt obay the rules of good graphic design. I will also hand out questionnaires for designers and none designers. I hope to gather a lot more information and start to plan how I will begin to write the report.

  1. Sounds good that you want to challenge yourself Yessica - there's loads of stuff out there about typography/colour legibility - maybe what you should do is base your whole report around a practical series of experiments you want to carry out into colour/type etc - you could find other materials to back up your experiments and then do some field testing to see how your experiments work/dont work...
