Packaging is a wide topic and I have decided to look at the history of packaging as the start of the research and the report. Understanding the background information will allow me to know more about the concepts of it. Packaging is often treated as trash no matter they are bottles, boxes or bags, I want to look into the psychological side of “packaging = rubbish”.
I am going to focus on water bottles (containers) as their packaging varies in forms and sizes, different cultures/countries have different packaging design. When consumers buy a bottle of water, they do not consider where the water come from and the process of production, they take water for granted. There is a BBC documentary about bottles of water, the carbon footprint of Fuji water and how the actual price for the water to be there is more expensive than the RRP. For my report, i will do several case studies of different countries' water bottles and how they are packaged. By studying the problems of packaging, I would like to indicate the criteria for the perfect packaging (for water bottles).
For the meanwhile, I am going to do more readings about sustainable packaging and water bottles. I think it is important for me to look at packaging as a whole first, understand what is in the market and environmental issues. I am still a bit confused and not very certain if I am heading to the right direction, maybe I should start my reading now...
