After talking with my group, getting feedback from them and reading the comments from Darren and Catherine, I have pretty much got the idea and direction to move forward.
First thing to research: An insight of how designers work
Internet
It’s bit hard to talk to design company but there are loads of resources out there on the internet, a perfect way to do my research with my laptop and I don’t have to bug anyone. Designer’s website and blog with their sketches and pictures will be a good place to look at.
Books
Also there are many good books that provide good sources of designer’s philosophy and method in design process. Here is the book list:
How Designers Think – The design process demystified (Bryan Lawson), It’s a very interesting book to understand how do designers work and the problems they are tackling.
Visual Research – An introduction to research methodologies in graphic design (Ian Noble and Russell Bestley), A guidebook for design students. It provides an introduction of methods and keys in graphic design process. It also includes some case studies, industry one and self-initiated one, a very quick glance on how to work in different graphic projects.
Design as Art (Bruno Munari), Recommended by Ana and Lucy
Interview
I really want to talk to some designers whoever is working in a design company or working as a freelance designer. It will be more interesting to talk to somebody rather than reading the information from book and internet.
Janice
Janice,
ReplyDelete"How to be a designer without losing your soul" is a great book. They talk about how to start projects, how to get inspiration, how to deal with design issues plus more. It's designers point of view and they say what works for them. Many designers have contributed with interviews for the making of this book and there are also very interesting sources in the end. It would recommend it for everyone who is interested in being a designer...or understanding them!
