I am thinking about doing my report exploring the combination of typography and layouts looking at how they compliment each other. However this subject is a bit too board so I need to be more specific. As suggested I could explore typefaces that have been designed for a purpose, however, this subject has moved away from the grid. Another suggestion I quite liked was to look into how the grid has developed the use of the type. At the moment I am still undecided on where I would like to specify, as I want to write about something that I will find useful in improving my work. So I may have a look at my work and assess my common weaknesses and address this in my report.
To help me research this I may look into Swiss design and the use of typography. Read some reports on similar topics to help me decide an interesting topic.

I think there's lots of typefaces that have been designed for specific purposes - for companies, magazines and newspapers etc to fit within branding schemes and/or grids.
ReplyDeleteYou could do some research into this area of typography design - do some case studies and talk to some designers who do this sort of work?
You'd learn a lot and could tie it into a practical project where you design a font for a specific purpose/grid - the report could back this up rather than just report on what others have done.
