Hmmm...

I’m still not really sure what subject area is best...

After researching today I will either go down the route of ‘memory’ or I will stick to the theme of ‘observation’.

If I was to go down the route of observation I would look into detail about ethnography, or even visual ethnography and anthropology. I would also look at the different methods, which are used for observing people to learn and gather data to inform design choices. This would involve me looking into different social sciences and different methods of observing people. I would look into past experiments and companies that have done so already such as IDEO design company as well as doing some of my own experiments. I could also look into things such as how most designers now test their products before publishing them to see how people react to them. I would especially be looking into sociological views such as the functionalists, and the interactionalists. I could also look at how different people observe and notice different things in comparison to other people.

If I was to go down the route of memory I would look into what makes a memorable brand, image, poster, logo etc. I would think about things such as does simplicity or originality stand out and I would look into how different people remember different things, as well as if images are more memorable in comparison to text. This would involve looking into psychology and theories such as the ‘Flash Bulb Memory’. Sigmund Freud would be someone to definitely research more into.

Or perhaps I could even interlink the two subjects together?
