After my tutorial I was more confused than before. My biggest problem is always the beginning. I never know how to start, how to narrow my points down. My idea for the 3rd year is to have fun, to explore my interest and focus on a process and presentation that I usually struggle with.

They are 3 things that interest me the most: space, observation, thinking process. I have been thinking of how to combine them all. My possible titles: Make invisible visible; Hidden relationships of my surrounding; Perceiving my space (world).

How do we perceive our world? Why is it important? What could it be used for? How does it relate to design?

Most of design students, but even some professionals and educators have difficulties during the process of realization, because they do not understand visual principles or do not think laterally. This report will discuss the main points of creativity; go through the thinking tools that could be used to help to solve design problems.

  1. Hi Renata,

You need to get cracking with this as time is marching on and next week is focusing on the design and final version of the proposal. I fear you are a little behind most of the group.

Maybe to get you started you need to imagine where you’d like to end up or what you imagine sitting on a desk as a report. What would you like your report to achieve? Who would you hope to help or educate by them reading your report? Questions about this can help you come up with the stages that you need to do in order to get to the end goal.

3 questions you need to ask yourself are:
What is the aim of your report – the general direction and topic?
What is the goal of your report – what do you want it to achieve?
What are the objectives of your report – the steps along the way you need to do to achieve the goal?

It sounds to me like you are interested in how designers (both students and professionals) see, observe, understand, visualise and use the world (space and objects) around them. In simplest terms – this means drawing.

Your report could be about how do graphic designers in the 21st Century use drawing in their process.

By drawing – I don’t mean the quaint definition of drawing a realistic looking picture – I mean using any appropriate (to the designer) tools, medium or process to see, observe, understand, visualise and use the world around them to produce their work.

Bruno Munari’s One Thing Leads to Another is a drawing system. Designers who use Processing or other software to turn numerical data into info graphics are drawing. Drawing is so fundamental. Look at the dictionary definition of the word ‘Draw” – its great.

Look at the other student’s posts to see how best to structure your proposal and do this very quickly - Bridging Studies needs to be successfully completed to progress onto the 3rd year.

It’s a very interesting subject – ripe with lots of potential for practical experiments.
